Greg Patterson, CKA

Managing Partner and Financial Advisor

Greg Patterson is managing partner of Atlantic Wealth Management. As a financial advisor, he has devoted almost two decades of his professional career to helping individual investors and their families achieve their financial goals. Along with JA, Greg is responsible for guiding the team’s wealth management practice, where he leads the overall client service and investment experience.

Greg is the trusted advisor to many successful individuals and families who have retired to the Crystal Coast or are working toward retirement. Through his work, he endeavors to help his clients build, manage, preserve, and transition wealth using a planning process, a team of specialists, and personalized service. As an Investment Adviser Representative of Commonwealth Financial Network, Greg has worked extensively in the field of financial management and maintains the FINRA Series 7, 63, and 66 securities registrations as well as life, health, and long-term care insurance licenses. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke as well as completed coursework from the College of Financial Planning and is a Certified Kingdom Advisor.

Acting on his faith and strong desire to give back to his community, Greg is active as an advisory board member both with the Salvation Army and Camp Albemarle and serves as the current president of his Rotary club. In addition, he remains very involved in his local church as a lay leader and member of the worship team.

Greg and his wife, Melissa, have five adult children and live in Morehead City, North Carolina, on their family farm. Among his interests away from the office are reading, spending time with his family, backpacking, and playing the drums.

James Allen Canady, CPA, CKA

Partner, CFO, and Financial Advisor

James Allen “JA” is a partner, financial advisor, and chief financial officer of Atlantic Wealth Management. He maintains the firm’s client-centered focus as he oversees finance and operations, including portfolio analysis and monitoring. JA was born and raised in Clayton, North Carolina. He attended Campbell University, where he received an undergraduate degree in trust and investment management with minors in accounting and financial planning. JA also completed graduate work and earned his MBA at Campbell.

JA has been part of the Morehead City community since 2004. He spent nine years in corporate finance and accounting as a CPA, controller, and business consultant, working for two local private companies and briefly for a national accounting firm. Prior to starting Atlantic Wealth Management, JA worked for Wells Fargo Advisors. JA’s prior experience serves the firm well as he focuses on ways to continually optimize the client experience at Atlantic Wealth Management. He currently holds FINRA Series 7 and 66 securities registrations through Commonwealth Financial Network®, as well as life, health, and long-term care insurance licenses. He also holds a North Carolina CPA designation and is a Certified Kingdom Advisor.

JA and his wife, Elizabeth, have been married since 2004 and have been blessed with six children: Reese (7), Sadie (5), Eliza (3), Rosa (3), Nellie (3), and Jac (<1 year). They finalized the adoption of Rosa and Nellie in 2019 after fostering for more than two years. In the community, JA serves on the Carteret County Historical Society Board. JA strives first and foremost to be a Christ-follower both at work and at home. He leads worship at Life Church and enjoys being active, playing music, and spending time with his family.

 

Kim Wadford

Director of First Impressions, Client Service Associate

Kim brings an extensive background in office operations and client service to Atlantic Wealth. In this new role, Kim will serve as the first contact for clients and their families, coordinating with partners Greg Patterson and James Allen Canady to successfully serve client relationships and operational needs of the firm.

Previously, Kim served as an office manager for RGD Projection Management in Cary, North Carolina. She earned a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University. Kim is passionate about serving her community and is active as a volunteer with The Storehouse Food Pantry in Morehead City, North Carolina.

 

Matthew Massengill

Paraplanner

Matthew Massengill joined the team in May 2019 and currently serves as a paraplanner to JA and Greg. Matthew is involved in the planning and monitoring of almost all aspects of the financial planning process to help better serve our clients. Matthew graduated from Campbell University in May with a degree in trust and wealth management and a minor in financial planning. Matthew is currently working his way to becoming fully registered by sitting and passing all required examinations. 

Matthew became interested in the financial planning field when he realized just how much you can help someone by providing knowledgeable and sincere financial advice and allow others to truly feel a sense of relief about their finances. 

Matthew grew up in White Lake, North Carolina, with his mom, June, and two older sisters, Maggie and Morgan. In his free time, Matthew referees youth and high school sports and currently coaches a high school basketball team in the Cape Carteret area. He is looking forward to getting involved in everything the Crystal Coast has to offer.
